President’s Message October 2015

Wow, we had another successful month.

We got a lot cleaned up at the community center. Thank you to everyone that helped in the internal clean up of the center prior to the trucks showing up. Etienne wrote this, I did tweak it some but he did such a good job I had to use it.

2015 cleanup. Thank you volunteers. Thank you Deer Run.

This year’s clean up was a fantastic success. More and more people in Deer Run are getting used to coming out each year. The effort is gaining momentum. We had 3 city garbage compactors, 2 for household(in which we filled them both twice) and one for organic waste, 2 SUPER full bins of steel, a large aluminum, specialty metals and car battery pile. Many many items didn’t see the household garbage truck – they found new homes. About a dozen volunteers showed up at 8:30 and were celebrating by 3pm. The turnout was monumental and everyone enjoyed meeting neighbors and each other which is what our community center excels at accomplishing. I am actually looking forward to next year – it was hard work and a lot of us got a sunburn but a lot of fun as well.

Well done Deer Run!

I also thanked all the volunteers for the ball tournament last month, but I left out a very important group that the board would like to acknowledge! As some of you know we allowed camping this year at the tournament, which was very successful. But we would like to thank all the residents who face and back onto the park for supporting us during this event, with your help functions like this keep gaining momentum.

Peter Demong was at our last board meeting( as usual) and updated us on our Skatepark (see online summary and links) that construction is scheduled for summer of 2016 now. Can’t wait to get this up and running for the kids as I see them boarding all over. Richard Gottfried was also present and introduced us to a new member of his team Christina Steed. He also informed us for all residence of his constituency that Notary and commissioner of oaths is available free of charge through his office at Bay 7, 1215 Lake Sylvan Drive SE (email Calgary.fishcreek – at – for any questions). Always a good service to know about when needed. Same day as our meeting we had an official opening of our new gym floor, Thank you again to Parks foundation – Calgary’s Amateur Sport Grant Program and all that were present.

By the time you read this letter Peter Demong’s ward 14 BBQ will have happened, As well Richard had his Fish-Creek Family BBQ on Sept 12 at the Bow Valley Ranch, Ty to both of you for throwing these functions for us. Sept 25 was our first Jelly Bean dance for the year, which will run every second month now till end of school year. Although we are regrouping for the rink project, the single set of boards that separate our two rinks is being replaced via grants obtained by Susan Tam as set out via our life cycle for center, thank you again.
